All the work paid off for Cal Poly at the Rose Parade Wednesday in Pasadena.

Cal Poly's float won the coveted Director's Award in the Tournament of Roses for the most artistic design and use of floral and non-floral materials.

It is also certified California Grown, meaning that the parts of the float are 85% California grown.

The float is also the only one in the parade that is built entirely by students.

It is a long standing Cal Poly tradition for students to participate in the float building, express their creative talents and and represent their university.

Students manage the entire float building process from the initial design where students decide on the float's theme the prior February.

Participation in the design, mechanics, construction, decoration and operation of -- there are a few students inside the float -- the Cal Poly Rose Float is an unforgettable hands-on experience.
