County of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced in a video that all non-essential retail and commercial establishments will close Thursday at 9:00 p.m.
All parks and beaches in Miami-Dade county, privately and publicly owned, will also close. Gimenez said these closings are coming from guidelines put in place by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Businesses closing include hair salons, casinos, spas, book stores, malls, indoor amusement parks, and golf courses.
"Your best protection is to stay home as much as possible," he said in the video announcement.
Pharmacies, grocery stores, banks, and gas stations will remain open. Restaurants will remain open for pick up and delivery only. Child day care facilities will operate with certain conditions, such as social distancing with no more than 10 children in each group.
There is currently no date as to when business will be allowed to re-open.
