Stop what you’re doing right now and set your DVR for next Thursday’s (April 9) episode of “Lip Sync Battle.” Because if the premiere is any indication, it’s going to be must-see TV. The first two episodes debuted April 2, with face-offs between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson vs. Jimmy Fallon and Common vs. John Legend — and it was amazing.
The Rock kicked things off above with a little Taylor Swift and really, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen a giant professional wrestler rap the sassy teen girl part of “Shake It Off.” It’s Shakespeare the way it was meant to be done.
But that is only the beginning. The final round between The Rock and Fallon featured the “Tonight Show” host channeling 1980s Madonna and the wrestler doing his best John Travolta.
But episode two is even better! First, Common goes all Jackson Five with “I Want You Back,” while Legend pops in a sick grill to perform Juvenile’s “Slow Motion.” Then the finals see the Oscar-winning collaborators channel Lionel Richie and MC Hammer. John Legend as MC Hammer, y’all.
Each episode chooses a winner — The Rock and Common, in the first two — but really, with a show like this, the audience is the winner.
Previews of upcoming episodes tease John Krasinski taking on “Proud Mary,” Justin Bieber doing his best Ozzy Osbourne and a “traumatizing” sibling battle between Derek and Julianne Hough.
The show airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Spike TV.
