Man Orders Chicken At Restaurant, Finds $4,500 In Bojangles’ Bag

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A man who ordered fried chicken at a Bojangles' restaurant in Virginia instead received $4,500 in cash.

“When I opened the box up, the BoJangles’ chicken box, there was probably close to $4500 dollars in cash and also SunTrust deposit slips."

James Minor ordered lunch at the drive-thru and quickly realized his chicken was cold. He sent it back to the restaurant, and an employee asked him to wait so they could make some fresh chicken.

A worker then handed Minor a bag. When Minor looked inside the bag, he found $4,500 and several deposit slips. He then went inside the restaurant to return the money.

“I’m honest. I know what integrity is. I have integrity,” Minor said.

He went inside, asked for a manager and explained what happened. He didn’t anticipate the manager’s reaction.

“He told me in an arrogant, nasty attitude being disrespectful saying that, ‘We would’ve called the authorities on you, too,’” Minor told WTVR. “Here I am doing a good thing, bringing the money back. Most folks probably would’ve kept on going and wouldn’t have recognized it until they got home.”

Minor said he was offered another meal and a tailgate party. He later called a district manager, but says that person hung up on him. He then contacted the chain’s corporate headquarters, which offered him a $100 gift certificate.

Minor said he feels he deserves an apology.

“I deserve respect, an apologetic letter from the Bojangles’ company and probably a cash reward,” he said. “What is a $100 gift certificate when you’re bringing in $4,500?”
