It was announced back in July that the newest villain for the upcoming fourth season of Arrow would be none other than the enigmatic Damien Darhk. And it was also announced that Darhk will be portrayed by long-time actor, Neal McDonough.
If you remember, in the third season of Arrow, Ra’s Al Ghul made a point to tell Oliver, Al Sah-Him at the time, all about Damien Darhk.
Ra’s Al Ghul described Damien Darhk as a “renegade member” of the League of Assassins and left the group after he was denied a leadership position in the clan to form a “hive” of his own. Ultimately, Darhk was successful at that task and now commands a “hive of supporters” around the world.
Darhk was also revealed to have been Ra’s Al Ghul’s competitor for the title of Demon’s Head. The reason why Darhk had “left” the group was because Ra’s Al Ghul hesitated in killing Damien Darhk, which allowed Darhk to escape.
Apparently, even Damien Darhk was too evil and too out of control for Ra’s Al Ghul to be able to handle. And that does say a lot, considering how diabolic the Demon was during his reign on the throne.
Now, for those who may be wondering, “Who is Damien Darhk?” Well, he has a brief history. But it’s a dark one, that’s for sure.
Damien Darhk made his first appearance in Titans Vol. 1 #1 in March of 1999 as an elusive and dangerous mastermind and criminal genius who is a big-time enemy of the Teen Titans.
Described and portrayed as being very young (early 20’s to be exact), he has proven and has been shown to be well-established and well-connected to the American underworld and has remained to be untouchable by the FBI and the CIA. He’s certainly a major player in that dark underworld.
And remember that “hive” that Ra’s Al Ghul was talking about in the third season of Arrow? Well, that “hive” is actually a crime syndicate called the Hierarchy of International Vengeance and Extermination, otherwise known as H.I.V.E. Get it, now?
And because of his association with H.I.V.E., he has gained access to unique, high-tech equipment that is unknown to any other organization in the world.
Damien Darhk has also been shown to be a Wi-Fi genius. He has the knowledge to be able to stay in touch with anyone by the newest and latest forms of mass communication via technological advances.
Overall, Damien Darhk, no matter how brief his history has been, is not a force to be taken lightly.
He’s shown to be a formidable opponent to his enemies and quite the criminal mastermind.
What sort of chaos and destruction will he bring to the Green Arrow and to the rest of Star City? The countdown has begun.
Arrow returns in THREE WEEKS for an exciting fourth season on SFL-TV, the CW!
