MALIBU, CA - Caitlyn Jenner is wearing quite a large chunk of gold on the latest Sports Illustrated cover.

Jenner stunts in her gold medal and explains, "for the first time in my life I really like myself."

In the SI issue and feature video, she goes down memory lane on her former life as Olympic champion.

Bruce Jenner: the gold medal-winning athlete, the man on the "Wheaties" box. It's hard to forget his iconic, record-breaking win at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

Until last year, no one really knew how Bruce felt about himself.  He tells Sports Illustrated "the decathlon for me was  . . . the ultimate and what people think of as manhood, so for me it was a good place to hide."

Now, Jenner is opening up about her journey from "Bruce the Olympian" to "Caitlyn for social change."

Bruce's gold medal helped her build a  gender issues platform.

Even if you do not agree with her lifestyle, it's true she's reshaped many people's views of what a "hero" looks like.
