HINGHAM, Mass. — A towering Massachusetts driver in an ill-sized sedan was arrested Thursday after a motorist reported seeing him standing through the sun roof while driving.

Ryan Delaney, 20, is 6 feet 7 inches tall, but it wasn’t just his unorthodox driving style that landed him in cuffs, Hingham police say. Delaney had a suspended license and is already due in court for an October 2014 crash that seriously injured a woman. In that incident, Delaney was driving 90 miles an hour — almost three times the speed limit, police say.

Police arrested Delaney around 3:30 p.m. after receiving a call describing “a man standing up in the sun roof” of a Mercury Sable, according to the Patriot Ledger.

The caller tailed Delaney until officers could catch up to him, pulling him over in an elementary school parking lot. Delaney reportedly told officers that he was not standing up while driving.

Hingham police declined to charge Delaney for the alleged standing-while-driving infraction because the 911 call was made from an adjacent county. Delaney was booked and released on bail Thursday.
