Mom calls cops on toddler who unbuckled her seat belt

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – There’s tough love, and then there’s calling the cops on your own toddler because she isn’t wearing a seat belt.

ABC 7 reports that’s exactly what Arizona mom Michelle Fortin did when her 3-year-old daughter unbuckled during a car ride home on Monday.

“All I heard was her screaming and crying, and all of a sudden her brother, who was sitting next to her, yells, ‘Mommy! Mommy, she unbuckled her seat belt,'” Fortin tells KPHO/KTVK. Fortin pulled over and explained to little Camille why it’s important she wear a seat belt. But she wasn’t sure Camille got the point.

So when Fortin got home, she called the Scottsdale Police Department on her daughter. She says she wanted to make sure Camille took the issue seriously because “her safety was at risk.”

Apparently, two officers were happy to come over and teach Camille and her brother about seat belt safety. Camille promised the officers she would keep her seat belt on in the future.

“I guess it was an extreme choice on my part to call police, but…I knew that was gonna drive the point home better than just hearing it from mom,” Fortin tells ABC 7.
