Airboat rides in the Everglades is a unique way to help people recover from addiction. It's just one of the ways that the unique staff at Imperium Wellness goes above and beyond to help their patients.
"I get this all the time. 'Man, Orlando, when I was down there I remembered that airboat ride, I remembered horseback riding, I remember we went to Peace River. That made such a change in my life'," said Orlando Paz, Alumni Program Director, Imperium Wellness.
Paz helps those in recovery stay on the right path.
"When I talk about the place that I work, this place that I love, and the reason I love this place, it's because it's not really a job for me. It's more of a passion. Since I've been through this, I know how painful it can be. I know how difficult it can be to make that life changing decision. Everything that you know when you lose everything, and you hit bottom you have nothing left. When you come to a place like this and they treat you like family and they put their arms around you and they take care of you, you just started that life saving process. It because of staff members like this that many lives I've seen changed and saved. Give it a chance, once you're here you'll be treated like family, there's a professional staff here second to none," said Paz.
There's no doubt that walking through these doors in Tamarac can be a lifesaving and life altering decision.
"We offer a wellness center with residential, and medical care. To get all the toxins out of someone's body and do it the best way possible when it comes to health concerns and comfortability. We want people to be comfortable when they are coming off those substances. Getting them out of their system, and also teaching them ways to stay healthy, not just get healthy but to remain healthy. On top of that we can show them and teach them to be a pillar in their community, to be someone who can be the poster child for change", said Michael Burke Director of Business Development of Imperium Wellness
