The WOW center – a non-profit program for adults with developmental disabilities– is launching a new "HUEMAN" brand to help fund their Kendall campus that had its funding hit hard by the pandemic. Our Kirk Gimenez interviewed Natalia Wong, WOW Executive Director, to learn more about the new hoodies, sweat pants and beanies that are on sale now. “Here at WOW, we’re ready to place Miami on the frontlines of inclusion. We’re excited to be working together with local creatives to release the 'Hueman' brand, said Wong. "Hueman was born from the idea that no matter the color of your skin, your gender, your age, your disability, we’re all more alike than different. A hue is a spectrum of color where every color melts into one another, and that’s what we are, we’re all 'Hueman'.”
At 29.4% of its population, Miami has the second highest percentage of individuals with disabilities in the nation. Diversity and inclusion challenges are at an all-time high.
“With any purchase of the 'Hueman' merch, the buyers are contributing to the mission of empowering the most vulnerable among us,” stated Wong. Beyond simply supporting The WOW Center, the organization is encouraging'Hueman' kindness by allowing their following to nominate individuals in the community who have gone above and beyond during 2020 to showcase kindness. The apparel includes the words "Hueman Kind" on it. “We know 2020 has not been easy for anyone, but perhaps the greatest lesson we’ve learned in 2020 is that even in the midst of a global pandemic, racial turmoil, economic recession, and political unrest, we are all HUEMAN. It is this belief that drives the mission at WOW and compels our team to do what we can to keep our doors open. Sometimes that passion leads to innovation — like releasing the first set from our limited edition HUEMAN Collection,” shared Wong. “We hope that this merch will be gifted to others more than just purchased for self use. We could all use more kindness this season.”
