Oscar nominations and predictions, Who's bringing home the gold?

The 93rd Academy Awards is heading to Union Station in Los Angeles on Sunday. While a lot has changed due to the pandemic, the excitement is still the same. Fandango correspondent, Nikki Novak, chatted with Jason Carter and Miriam Tapia about what to expect on the show, and who could be bringing home awards.

Novak says the show is being produced like a movie. They're using the entire venue to their advantage, and presenters are being called "performers." Winners are also being encouraged to tell fun stories as their acceptance speeches.

While Nomadland is a fan favorite and big winner in the past, Novak says there could be another film to swoop in and take the spotlight. Judas and the Black Messiah and The Trial of the Chicago 7 could both rank on the preferential ballots and sweep categories.

Chadwick Boseman is a definite winner for Best Actor, Novak also says.

"This isn't just for his incredible performance...it's for his legacy, his life, everything he stood for," she says. "When I watch that movie now, knowing he knew what he was going through, don't you just feel the power behind that performance?"

As far as Best Actress goes, she says it's the wildest race in several years. Most of the actresses have already taken home big awards this season, so it could go to anyone. However, Novak predicts Viola Davis will take it home, though.
