Broward County Public Schools continued to provide food to BCPS students and their families this morning at Coral Springs High School. Meals will be available Monday-Friday until April 15th. Breakfast will be served from 8am to 10am and lunch from 11am to 1pm.
"We're open at 47 sites now so that we can make sure that all of the students that relied on us for healthy meals can still have access to those meals. So anyone that is 18 years or younger and any family members that accompany them can have a free breakfast and lunch every day," said Zoe Crego, Registered Dietician.
Miami-Dade Public Schools and Broward County Public Schools temporarily closed on Monday the 16th due to concerns over the coronavirus. For more information and a list of school locations in Dade head to dadeschools.net. For Broward head to https://www.browardschools.com/coronavirus.
Also in Broward, The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation delivered hundreds of meals last week to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood. Rizzo donated more than 800 meals to frontline workers helping fight against COVID-19 in both Florida and Illinois.
"We are extremely supportive of each other and it's nice that the community is also supportive of us. It makes our jobs a little easier," said Yari Machado, RN at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
“I really appreciate all the donations everyone has given us. I know everyone at the hospitals and the frontline workers have been so appreciative of this. All the restaurants that have helped us, we can't thank you enough. Everyone who has donated, we can't thank you enough," said Rizzo.
The Chicago Cubs player lives in Parkland. He overcame cancer and also helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series. So you can say he’s a bit of a miracle worker, especially through his charitable work. To donate, head to rizzo44.com/donate.
