On Friday Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced a COVID-19 target date to reopen Phase 1 on May 18th that could possibly coincide with a Broward County Phase 1 reopening. Mayor Gimenez emphasized that beaches will NOT reopen on that target date.

Governor Ron DeSantis started reopening Florida with Phase 1 Monday, but on Friday local Congress members sent him a letter saying they were concerned it was a “rushed reopening.”

Miami-Dade and Broward counties were NOT part of the initial part of Phase 1 because we have a higher concentration of Coronavirus cases.

Reopening may prove a difficult process as earlier in the week, officials had to re-close South Pointe Park on Miami Beach because citizens failed to follow COVID-19 rules.
