Not wearing a mask in public can now cost you big bucks.
Individuals caught violating any of the New Normal orders in Miami-Dade county, including wearing a mask and social distancing, can be charged a $100 fine. Businesses can be charged $500.
"Someone can tap you on the shoulder and say 'Here's a citation for not wearing a mask'", Miami-Dade mayor Carlos Gimenez said in a press conference on Friday.
Gimenez said these violations were previously being handled as second-degree misdemeanors that required a police officer and created an arrest record for the individual. Now they will be civil citations and can be given out by code enforcement officers.
Sixty code enforcement officers and 100 police officers will be working in the county to make sure people are sticking to the New Normal plan.
