Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez has postponed the reopening of beaches in the county after multiple protests over the weekend.

Protests occurred in Downtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale. After some store fronts were damaged and looted in Bayside, a county wide curfew was enforced.

"Following the unrest associated with protests in our community, I have decided to postpone the reopening of beaches in Miami-Dade County, originally scheduled for Monday, June 1st. The beaches will remain closed until the curfew order is lifted," Gimenez said in an online announcement.

The mayor has also asked that protesters who stopped people who were attempting to vandalize a CVS in Downtown Miami come forward so he can commemorate and thank them.

Protests are happening across the country, calling for justice and change after the death of George Floyd who died while being detained by police in Minneapolis.
