The mother of a 7-year-old Florida boy who suffers from a rare genetic nervous disorder is asking for support cards to help her son get through surgery.

Tyler Heffner had his right leg amputated below his knee.

"Just trying to avoid amputation as long as we could, but it's not getting any better," said his mother, Audrina Heffner

The first amputation had complications so Tyler has another surgery scheduled for November 18. Until then, his mother said Tyler doesn't want sympathy, but he will take sympathy cards or any cards.

"Reading well wishes, get well cards, will help him through his recovery, to know that he's not in this alone and that people are there for him and they care for him lift his spirits while he's recovering from surgery," she said.

Tyler looks up to his favorite superheroes. Spiderman and Superman. He also looks up to real-life heroes, the Daytona Beach police.

Officers wished Tyler well earlier this week with a special drive-by and more law enforcement officers are expected to stop by in the next few days.

Cards and letters to Tyler Heffner can be mailed to PO Box 730307, Ormond Beach, FL, 32173.
