Located in a shopping center in Fort Lauderdale is a hidden gem called Cafe Vico. It's been open for 25 years and it's staying open during this pandemic to serve their loyal customers.

Chef and Owner, Marco Vico, of the Fort Lauderdale staple, Cafe Vico, is staying positive as his restaurant is facing serious struggles in the coronavirus crisis with a 90% in decrease of sales.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep going,” said Vico.

Forced to close his doors for dine-in after 25 years, Marco Vico says he’s staying open every day from 11:00am to 9:30pm for takeout and delivery, all while offering specials for lunch and dinner.

“If they pick it up, they get a 20% discount. If we deliver with our own staff, we don’t charge for delivery. We have a menu for a family meal for four. Very reasonable, it’s 80$. You get an appetizer, main course, bread with garlic, the garlic dip is very famous here, and a pasta,” added Vico.

Additional safety procedures have been implemented at the Italian eatery such as wiping down the orders before they go out for delivery and having less employees in the kitchen, by staggering shifts.

We have 30 staff working, not reduced, but we alternate. That way everyone makes a little bit. Servers are doing deliveries and Chefs are washing dishes. We’re doing everything we possibly can to keep all the staff, hopefully, as soon as it’s over and everything goes back to normal,” said Vico.

It’s hard to know when things will get back to normal, but Marco says he’ll be working hard to keep his loyal customers happy.

“It’s a family-owned and operated. So, once you walk in here, you walk into our home,” said Vico.

Cafe Vico is located at 1125 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304. For a look at their menu visit cafevicorestaurant.com
